    I was once asked by a fellow (female) community action group member, “What” I was. When I responded “American”, she went into apoplexy, admonishing me sternly that I couldn’t make that claim, as that wasn’t a “recognized, legitimate” category or group. I replied that when I was stationed near Munich, West Germany [12/’60-06/’62], I was asked, in German, the same question. I then told her I responded thus: “Armenischer, Englander, Franklander, Hollander und Scotlander”, to which my German questioner, bursting into a big smile said, “Ach! Amerikaner!”. I told her it was a lesson I’ve never forgotten. As long as we Balkanize, segregate, separate, categorize, fold, spindle and mutilate the American polity, we diminish this grand experiment. We must embrace our uniquely American commonality, especially those precepts as espoused in our Constitution and its Preamble thereto that bind us together. We must disavow those who would divide to conquer, control and diminish us, both as a people and as a nation. So I ask you, am I wrong to insist on my “Americanism”, especially since my grandparents sacrificed so much just to get here to raise a family in freedom? If you agree with my inquisitor, please, follow her petty, "Progressive" ways. Just do it somewhere else. Otherwise, welcome to my country.

    As a young child I went through my grandparents bookcase and found the book Angel Unaware. The story did touch me but I don't know what happened to the book but ordered it in memory of Candace. My step daughter was Down Syndrome who recently passed away due to early onset Alzheimer/Dementia which is not so uncommon with Downs. She was 47 and had lived a full life due to the opportunities offered to the disabled these days. I also taught special education for 36 1/2 years even before I had met Candace. It must have been a calling and the book had touched my life.

    This is lovely in the most masculine sense of the word. Where can you hear such resounding harmony these days from young men? Awesome. I can imagine some of these young men later serving our country....and this number coming back to them in later days....this never leaves the soul!

  • @rayherbst6655
    @rayherbst6655 9 лет назад

    This just never gets old. There are an extremely small percentage of men walking the earth today who were once part of a well-formed boy's choir. This vid is a stark contrast to today: it's simple, beautiful harmony and many boys plainly will never have this positive life-changing experience.

    Unbelievable just plain fun, very interesting glimpse into a cultural mostly gone. I was raised a fourth generation horseman so it does have appeal and nostalgia. I miss my horses and there were many more then 50. I wrote down there names one at a time and remember each one's personality and something I did with each.

    This is a beautiful tribute to Roy, who I don't hesitate to say was one of the greatest men of the 20th century. Roy, Dale, as well as the Lone Ranger, had the most influence on my life of anyone outside of my family. I had the privilege of corresponding with Dale after Roy passed. Her letters were filled with the same warmth and genuineness that she showed wherever she was. I love the fact that we have such easy access to Roy's movies. I cried when I learned of his death; and I don't cry about much. I miss Roy and Dale very much. I look forward to being with them and so many others soon!

This is one of the songs I remember them singing as a duet. These were salt of the earth people, back then, and yes, great role models.
